The Aquatic Club Records collection contains brochures, newspaper articles, photographs, correspondence and hand-written notes. The bulk of the materials are from the Water Carnivals put on by the club from 1954 to 1958. These materials were donated by Dr. William A. Yorzyk and include notes and statistics on the carnivals (including the results of the races held), newspaper articles published before and after the carnivals, and brochures that are often marked with results of the races....

The early history of gymnastics at Springfield College goes all the way back to 1891 with a gym meet with the 23rd St. YMCA Leaders Corps in New York City. Dr. James Naismith, the creator of basketball, participated. The first exhibition Homeshow, an exhibition show that took place after the team put on shows in other communities around the Northeast, took place in May of 1905. The Marlin Club Records collection contains photographs, programs and one video created by the Marlin Club and its predecessors, the Synchronized Swimming Club, the Swim Club and the Swimming Club. These materials begin with photographs taken of synchronized swimming being performed in McCurdy Natatorium during the early ‘50s. Edward S. Steitz was born on November 7th, 1920. After arriving at Springfield College in 1948, he was appointed as the head varsity basketball coach at Springfield College in 1956. His teams never had a losing season, and he ended with a 185-86 record. He served on the NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee from 1967 through his death in 1990.
