Collection Scope and Contents
The Jesse Parks papers contain biographical information, photographs, news releases, news articles, correspondence, research notes and data, informational pamphlets, forms, small tools, a dictionary, and maps. Materials date from 1958 to 1984 and focus on his work on Operations Crossroads Africa and his Doctoral Dissertation and Research. Materials represented include information on Operation Crossroads Africa, including photographs, letters, reports and evaluations, news articles, correspondence, an Arabic dictionary, and maps of Egypt and the former United Arab Republic (U.A.R.). There is an abundance of information and materials from Dr. Parks’ dissertation “An Electromyographic and Mechanical Analysis of Selected Abdominal Exercises”, including photographs, research data, notes and sketches, small tools, informational pamphlets on equipment used, and a master copy of his final dissertation. The papers include information on the 1971 National Summer Youth Sports Program, containing a visitation report and evaluation. There are miscellaneous photographs of Dr. Parks, and his wife, Lucille, including an Orthopaedics Department photograph from his time at the University of Michigan, along with various news releases and articles about Dr. Parks, ranging from his first years working at Springfield College and involvement in the city of Springfield community, to his obituary. There is miscellaneous correspondence to and from Dr. Parks, including mentions of his work during Operation Crossroads Africa, and biographical information on Dr. Parks from his employment at Springfield College, updated as late as 1975.
