Series 02d Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This subseries of the collection contains three scrapbooks/photo albums that capture Regina’s life in various ways. The photographs in these albums display: Regina posing in his exercise demonstrations (some of which were published in previously described newspaper articles), various self-portraits (at various ages), Regina teaching his students in groups, various sightseeing trips outside of Argentina, a Springfield College 1930 group picture, team portraits (some signed by team members), Regina learning as a student, and personal photographs of family and friends. The interweaving of Regina’s personal life and professional career speak to the nature of his character. He was a great leader within the YMCA, but also kept a close relationship with his family. One of the scrapbooks seems as though it could have been put together by another family member, because it includes information about a dedication of a gymnasium in Regina’s name, after he had passed away (1988). The other two scrapbooks were put together by Regina himself and contain captions to go with the associated pictures (written in Spanish). Along with the photographs there are various papers such as: a Springfield College certificate and a certificate proclaiming Regina as a delegate to the 1931 world conference of the YMCA. There is also a CD-ROM created by Regina’s family titled: “Alberto Regina: A Dedicated Life 1900-1948”. This tribute contains various photographs of Regina starting from his time as a student, throughout his career, timed to alternate photographs and set to music. There are also pictures of Regina’s personal life, including a wedding picture and pictures of his young daughter. Most of these pictures are digitized images that came from the three scrapbooks contained in this collection. The video is about 6 minutes long.

Processing Information

The three scrapbooks in this collection were photographed using a canon EOS Rebel T1i Camera mounted on to a Bencher Copymate II copystand. I used the Zoom lense, on the portrait setting of the camera. The height of the camera on the column was at the highest setting it would reach. The lights were angled at about 90 degrees. The office lights were on. I manually controlled the setting of the lense in order to photograph pages without any images present. Pages with images, or text were automatically focused using the settings on the camera. In order to photograph the pages of the scrapbooks with minimal glare, the plastic sheets were removed and archival tape was used to hold the items in place. The tape was then removed and the plastic covering was returned to its normal state inside of the album. Blank pages within each of these scrapbooks were photographed.

For preservation purposes, the photographs and other materials were removed from the pages of the scrapbook, after all of the digital preservation was completed. These scrapbooks along with their blank pages were then taken out of the collection. I then preserved the materials from inside of the scrapbooks and arranged them in archival folders in the page order that they were origionally found inside of the scrapbooks. A PDF document was created for each scrapbook in order to retain the origional composition of the physical object.
