Series 01 Scope and Contents

From the Series:

Series 1 contains general information on the construction and use of the Physical Education Complex. Included in the series is information on the capital fund drive that enabled the complex to be built, including documents and photographs on the $500,000 Charles A. Dana Foundation Challenge Grant, the $500,000 Prestley Blake Challenge Grant, and the Insurance Company of North America donation. Also included are many pictures, pamphlets, correspondence, and other various documents created for the original dedication in the fall of 1981, and pamphlets and videos of the ceremonies for the dedication of Naismith Court in 2007 and the dedication of the Douglas Parker Wrestling Room in 2012. In addition to the dedication materials there are materials regarding the groundbreaking, including an audio tape of the proceedings, photographs of the relay race to bring the building permit at the start of construction, and photographs of the placing of the tree at the top of the building ceremony. Of interest is a folder containing drawings, a photograph, notes and correspondence regarding the installing of the Basketball Hall of Fame stained glass windows outside of the Parker Wrestling room. There are also many photographs and slides that track the construction of the PE Complex, with an emphasis on the Blake Arena. Finally along with many photographs and slides of the interior and exterior of the complex, with Blake Arena making up the vast majority of the images, there are many sketches and blueprints/floor plans of the complex.
