Series 4 Scope and Contents
Materials within Series 4: Newspaper and Magazine Articles include newspaper and magazine article clippings (some copies) as well as full magazines and newspapers. Most of the articles have to do with the protests held on the campus of Springfield College by students demanding equal rights for black students on campus as well as student rights in general in 1969 and 1970. This includes the takeover of the Administration Building and Massasoit Hall. Newspaper articles are from thelocal Springfield Newspapers, including the Daily News and the Springfield Republican as well as the The Negro Star, The Student (Springfield College’s Student Newspapers), and the Boston Globe among many other newspapers outside of the immediate area. There are also articles on Student Rights protests held throughout the country that were collected by the administration or sent to the administration that talked about the situation on other college campuses.
