Collection Scope and Contents The Aquatic Club Records collection contains brochures, newspaper articles, photographs, correspondence and hand-written notes. The bulk of the materials are from the Water Carnivals put on by the club from 1954 to 1958. These materials were donated by Dr. William A. Yorzyk and include notes and statistics on the carnivals (including the results of the races held), newspaper articles published before and after the carnivals, and brochures that are often marked with results of the races....

Abstract Dr. James Genasci was born in 1928. He attended Springfield College, receiving his Bachelor of Science in 1950 and a Master of Science in 1955. He got a Doctor of Education from the University of Northern Colorado in 1960. He was an Associate Professor of Physical Education and eventual Assistant Director of the Division of Graduate Studies at Springfield College from 1963 to 1994. Abstract Channing R. Mann was a native of Lincoln, Nebraska and a graduate of Lincoln High School. He received his professional training at Springfield College, then known as the International YMCA College. He graduated in 1916. From 1917-1919 he directed the Army YMCA program at Fort Jackson. Abstract Amos Alonzo Stagg, known as the “Grand Old Man of Football,” was born on August 16, 1862 in West Orange, New Jersey. In 1890, Stagg became a faculty member at the International YMCA Training School, now Springfield College, where he stayed until 1892. Abstract Edward S. Steitz was born on November 7th, 1920. After arriving at Springfield College in 1948, he was appointed as the head varsity basketball coach at Springfield College in 1956.
