Series 01, Sub-series d: Springfield College Exhibition Team and Home Show, ca. 1900-1970
Subseries 01D Scope and Contents
This sub-series has group photographs of the Springfield College Exhibition Team and Home Show performances. Some of the photographs are co-ed, but most show exclusively men. These photographs show team drills, clowns, dance routines, triple balance, wand juggling, and pyramids. “Triple balance” refers to an act where three students balance against one another in a variety of angles and supports. When the exhibition team became coed in 1963, Professor Ampolo, the college’s dance director, joined the exhibition coaching staff and raised dance to a new level.

Arrangement
This subseries had little original organization: some were sorted by exhibition acts (i.e. triple balance, clowns, dance team, and pyramids), while the rest were in a large, disorganized group. I continued this organization by sorting miscellaneous images into these categories and separating out other “theme” acts. One of the folders was titled “Ampolo Dance,” a reference to Springfield College professor Louis Ampolo. The file was renamed “Dance.” Within the folders, the photographs have no order, and so digitized items were moved to the front.
