Subseries 01c Scope and Contents

From the Folder:

Included within this sub-series are printed and hand drawn maps showing the campus. These include dated and undated maps created by Springfield College as well as a few maps created by others. Of particular interest are property maps that show the property belonging to the college in the early 20th century, from ca. 1900 to 1930. A 1906 map shows the exact location of Gerrish Grove, while an undated map shows the location of the Flagg Property. The Oct. 22, 1930 map called “International YMCA Plan of Land in Springfield” may show the plan developed when Gerrish Grove was finally sold and what is now the Roosevelt Road Bridge was put across Lake Massasoit. Of additional interest is a color-coded map created by the Springfield Planning Board titled “Pattern of Land Use at Watershops Pond” that shows the property around Lake Massasoit, or the Watershops Pond, and how this land was zoned or used.
