Subseries 03b Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

This sub-series contains photographs and photographic materials on various buildings and temporary structures on campus. Unlike Series 5: Photographs in this collection, these photographs tend to be of individual buildings or complex of buildings whereas Series 5: Photographic Materials contain photographic materials of the general campus. Included within are photographs and materials showing the veteran housing or lakeside village and various trailer parks that existed on the campus from the 1930s through around 1970. Most of the extra housing was created to deal with the increased student body and their families that arrived after World War II and the Korean War. There are also photographs of the ice house and some structures that existed before Springfield College bought the land. Interior shots of empty classrooms, mostly a physics classroom from 1946, and the various bookstores and weight rooms that the college has had are also to be found. Finally there are a few pictures of the World War I barracks, the elevated pathway that the US Navy built during World War II when the campus was used by the military, Dana Fine Arts Building, and the President’s House built in 2003 (on the site of the old Doggett Memorial Presidents Home).
