Sub-series 2d Scope and Contents
Materials within Series 2, Sub-series d: Black Demands, October 29, 1969 include printed college documents, memos, correspondence, notes, and reports created mostly in the fall of 1969 in regards to the College’s response to the Black Student demands that were originally sent to the College in the spring of 1969. Of particular interest are some documents written to describe some of the steps taken to address these demands, including a document written by Calvin J. Martin and Charles H. Schaff. Another document of note is “Old Business” written by the Black Students of Springfield College.

Arrangement
The arrangement used in sub-series d: Black Demands, October 29, 1969 uses the order of the original folder. Further organizing by date and the placing of materials within their own folders were done during processing for the ease of access and digitization. Duplicates and some materials from the original group of materials found prior to 2018 were added where deemed appropriate, but no documentation of these additions were made unless it was deemed important to understanding the document. Documentation will be attached to the document in question.

There were many duplicates within the collection. Though most of the duplicates have been discarded, many duplicates were left in the collection. Duplicates were retained if 1) they were in different folders –to maintain the integrity of the original order, or 2) they had markings or notes written on them, or 3) were drafts or different manifestations of the same document (printed on different paper or arranged differently on the page).
Processing Information
Many materials within this series were stapled or paper clipped together. Where appropriate, such as when they were gathered together as references sent in letters and/or used in meetings, these materials were left together.
