Series 3 Scope and Contents
Materials within Series 3: Correspondence include correspondence (letters, memos, and/or notes) received by or sent by the Office of the President regarding the Black Demands and student protests mainly for equal rights for black students in 1969 and 1970. The correspondence is divided into three groupings that match the original folders as arranged by the Office of the President. These include, 1) “Responses to Black Demands, Feb. & May 1969” with correspondence from alumni, college partners, and others relating to the original “Black Demands” submitted February 19, 1969, 2) “Responses to Wilbert E. Locklin’s Alumni Mailing, May 28, 1969” consisting of mostly correspondence relating to an Alumni letter that went out on May 28, 1969, and 3) “Black Demands, 1970” with correspondence from alumni, college partners, parents, faculty, and others relating to the events that occurred in the Spring of 1970.
