Series 02, Sub-series d: Photographic Materials, ca. 1902-2017
Subseries 02d Scope and Contents
Materials in this sub-series include photographic prints, slides, negatives, and contact sheets. A fair amount of the material within the series is undated and unidentified. Photographs include team photographs, individual gymnasts, coaches, and action shots (both staged and not-staged) taken from meets and practices from approximately the start of the program in 1904 through the present. In addition, there are some photographs of gymnasts watching the events, getting awards at matches, celebrating, spectators watching the events, and some reunion or alumni gathering photographs. In a special exception, there are photographs of Tim Daggett, 1984 Gold Medalist from Springfield, Massachusetts. Of interest may be the series of photographs taken at championships and matches from the late 1980s through the early 2000s.

Arrangement
Photographic materials are arranged in the following order: undated materials (including action, team, group, individual & other identified/named materials) and dated photographs. Dated materials are mostly arranged in chronological order. Newly added materials are placed in folders at the end of the appropriate box to ensure naming system of digital items. As such, materials may not be in chronological order. Check box list to be sure that materials are not missed.

Dates for photographs have not been verified. Processors used the dates on the photographs or on the folder they were originally housed in when archives received them.

This series contains materials on the Springfield College men’s gymnastics teams or men’s gymnastics history. The Springfield College Gymnastics team has a complicated history, and it is possible that some materials could be found in the other series in this collection. Therefore, it is important to check Series 1: Combined Men’s & Women’s, Series 3: Women’s and Series 4: Exhibition/Homeshow series to ensure that all materials are found.
